Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Nothing is worse than laying down at night just to find out your furnace won’t start up. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are a few things you can check yourself prior to calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters every 30 days. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but make sure the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating equipment will still not turn on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 330-305-2799 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
