You may already understand that your heating and air conditioning equipment needs annual HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) maintenance, but did you know that you also need to call an expert for annual plumbing maintenance? Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning offers the Plumbing PLUS™ Maintenance Agreement for Medina homeowners to help them locate issues before they result in big problems. While you should definitely call immediately for plumbing problems and plan your plumbing maintenance annually, here are a couple ways for you to get your home in great plumbing shape for spring.
Look at all your faucets and toilets for any leaks. Confirm there is no water dripping out of or around the connections when you shut off your faucets. If there is, installing new fixtures or repairing the leak could help boost the faucet’s function and may even lower your water bill.
In addition to faucets, check any exposed pipes for indications of leaks. You can typically access visible pipes in the basement and under sinks. Sometimes pipes can freeze and then crack so spring is the perfect time to make sure the winter weather didn’t cause any damage or plumbing problems.
- Give your drains some much needed TLC
Examine your toilet for any cracks or leaks in both the tank and the bowl. If everything looks like it’s in good condition, go ahead and pour about six drops of food color into the water in the tank. Wait half an hour and then peak at the bowl. If the bowl is uncolored, you’re good to go. If the color appears in the bowl, you could have a leak and will want to call a plumbing expert.
- Don’t forget your water heater maintenance
If an unpleasant odor seems to be getting in from any of the drains in your home, it be an indication that plumbing maintenance is needed. A properly working drain shouldn’t release odors into the air. Confirm there are strains placed in all your drains to stop hair and other debris from spoiling in the pipes and clogging them up. Once you’ve treated them with a common drain cleaner, pour eight pints of water into drains that are not used often. This will fill the trap and help to stop odors from sneaking in and stinking up your home.
Your water heater takes excellent care of you so ensure you’re returning the love. Keep in mind that newer water heaters have a higher efficiency, so if yours is over 15 years old, it may be about time to invest in a new one in order to ensure you don’t have that unpredicted burst of cold water for a week. Regardless if you plan on purchasing an upgraded water heater, there are a couple things you can do to help keep it working properly.
Make sure the temperature setting on the equipment is not set higher than 120°F. This will help lower your energy use (and help lower your bills) while also avoiding scalding. As a safety precaution, you will want to remove anything from around the water heater. Your annual Plumbing PLUS Maintenance agreement includes a water heater maintenance; and it may actually help your water heater perform more efficiently and avoid plumbing problems from happening.
These are just a couple ways of how you could help get your plumbing springtime-ready, but if you are not comfortable performing any of these tasks, always feel free to call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning and we can come out and conduct your annual plumbing maintenance and fix (or help stop) any plumbing problems.
